WELCOME

If we approach mental health from the belief that we are all uniquely human, we will understand that therapy is not about “fixing”, but rather for investigating, for being curious with ourselves and others, and for bringing compassion to our lives for the multitude of ways we have coped with life thus far. It is an interchange that allows us to challenge old beliefs and take risks at new beginnings.

Welcome to my practice,

My name is Katharine, I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and have been working in the field of mental health for over twenty years.

My practice incoporates a mindful, holistic and integrative approach to mental health using a variety of treatment modalities to address the unique needs of my clients. These include Mindfulness Based Skills Reduction (MBSR), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT) & Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR). In additon to these modalities, my work draws on a strong foundation of client centered, relational and empowerment based approaches.

Throughout my work, my clients have continuously shown me the resiliency of the human spirit and our innate ability to heal, and ultimately thrive in our lives given the time and space to do so. It is my belief that a safe, non judgemental and confidential space, that allows us to connect, feel seen, heard, and validated through the witnessing of another person, lays the groundwork for each of our individual and personal healing processes.

Whether you are experiencing symptoms related to anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, grief, loneliness, realtionship challenges, health issues, or major life transitions, I invite you to explore new ways of connecting to yourself and others that will increase your sense of wellbeing, security, and joy .

Feel free to contact me to set up a free 15 minute consult to see if we’d be a good fit.

A MINDFUL AND PRESENT LIFE

What is a Mindful and Present life and how can it help me?

We live in a society that runs on stress. We react instead of respond. We are impulsive and make decisions on a whim.  We are distracted and disconnected in our work and relationships.  This way of relating to each other and our environment only increases our stress and anxiety and often exacerbates the physical, mental and emotional problems in our lives.

Mindfulness is the art of paying attention.

When we aren’t paying attention in our lives we often feel distracted and disconnected which makes it nearly impossible to make choices and decisions that are in our best interest, and in the best interest of those around us. It is a common belief, and one supported by research, that mental health issues are closely tied to chronic stress. When our stress becomes unmanageable life can feel overwhelming and out of our control. This, more likely than not, leads to feelings of helplessness and depression.  Chronic stress depresses our immune system, alters our moods and damages our personal and professional relationships.

A Shift Occurs…

It’s my belief, that when we slow down…. when we pause… when we become aware of the present moment & bring attention to our lives… a shift occurs. This shift allows us the space to see our lives and situations more clearly. Our confusion lifts, and we are able to be a conscious and active participant in our own mental and emotional wellbeing.

This is the preface of a Mindful and Present life.
