A little about me…

It is my belief that we all have the ability to heal and ultimately thrive in our lives, given the time, space, and support to do the work we need to do.

I am a licensed clinical social worker with over 20 years of clinical experience.  I have a bachelors degree in Psychology from the University of Arizona in Tuscon, Arizona and a master degree in clinical Social Work from Simmons College in Boston, Massachusetts. I have experience in multiple clinical settings including inpatient medical and psychiatric hosptials, as well as community mental health and private practice.

Throughout my years as a therapist, I have worked with a variety of clients in both age range and diagnosis. I use an integrative and holistic approach, with my main therapeutic philosophy being one of relational-based treatment. Relational-based treatment views relationships as central to psychological health and uses the therapeutic relationship to help facilitate awareness, growth, and positive change. It supports the idea that therapy is most effective when a client is provided a safe, supportive and non judgmental environment in which to freely and openly express oneself. It has been shown that within the safety of the client-therapist relationship, the use of compassion and or empathy, can literally help clients create healing chemicals in the body, change neural pathways in the brain, and develop hormonal responses that can help heal past abuses (Badenoch 2008).

In addition to relational-based treatment, I draw from a strong holistic and mindfulness based practice including the use of Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction and meditation techniques and practices. My experience also includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Feminist/ Empowerment based theories and interventions.

As well as being a therapist, I am a mother to two teenagers and a partner to my husband of twenty plus years.  I have been a dedicated student of yoga for over fifteen years and am a firm believer in the holistic and integrative healing power of the mind-body connection. Lastly, I am the mother to an adorable yorkipoo, Abbey, who is my constant companion and who reminds us all daily, of the simple pleasures in life.
